The overall aim of the course is to provide pilots with the knowledge and operational experience required to conduct advanced tactical flight operations in a multi-platform environment. The programme integrates academic instruction with practical flight exercises to reinforce operational concepts and develop mission effectiveness. Course content is modular and can be tailored to the customer’s operational requirements while providing exposure to joint operations and dissimilar aircraft types.

Course Subjects

As an overview, the course will include at least the following subjects:

  • Operational planning principles and mission preparation within a multi-platform tactical environment.
  • Tactical employment considerations for different aircraft types and supporting operational assets.
  • Coordination and communication between participating units during complex or dissimilar aircraft operations.
  • Operational risk management and decision-making processes during tactical missions.
  • Conceptual and practical application of mission planning, briefing, and structured debriefing techniques to enhance learning and operational effectiveness.
  • Foundational academic instruction designed to support the practical application of tactical concepts during flight exercises.

Training and Flight Exercises

The training may be conducted using a variety of aircraft platforms suitable for tactical training objectives and should include at least the following elements:

  • Progressive flight exercises designed to reinforce concepts introduced during the academic phase of the course.
  • Structured mission planning, briefing, execution, and debriefing processes to support an objective learning environment.
  • Practical exposure to operations involving multiple aircraft types and coordinated mission execution.
  • Instructor participation in selected flight exercises to guide learning objectives and ensure effective training outcomes.
  • Operational scenarios that encourage cooperation between participating units and exposure to joint or dissimilar aircraft operations.
  • Training conducted using a building-block methodology that gradually increases complexity while reinforcing core tactical concepts.
  • The course philosophy emphasizes flexibility and customization, allowing the training programme to be adapted in consultation with the customer in order to maximize the operational value of the selected aircraft platforms and training objectives.

The new ITTC facility in North Bay, Ontario, provides an ideal environment for advanced tactical training.
